Pro is billed separately from the consumer AlphaYou plan. Each paid API plan has its own 30 day money-back guarantee. Plans renew automatically until you cancel. The details are in the [API terms](https://alphayou.net/legal/api-terms) and the [Refund policy](https://alphayou.net/legal/refunds).

Prices and limits can change. The numbers your key really has are always in the [whoami](https://docs.alphayou.net/api/authentication.md#check-what-your-key-can-do) response and the response headers.

## What each call costs

You spend **request units**. Most calls cost 1. Detailed reads cost 3. The dataset catalog costs 0.

| Dataset | Address | Plan | Cost | Source | How fresh |
| - | - | - | - | - | - |
| Dataset catalog | `GET /api/v1/datasets` | Free | 0 | AlphaYou | Changes when a dataset ships |
| Tracked funds | `GET /api/v1/funds` | Free | 1 | SEC Form 13F-HR | Quarterly, up to 45 days after quarter end |
| Company 8-K disclosures | `GET /api/v1/tickers/{symbol}/disclosures` | Free | 1 | SEC Form 8-K and 8-K/A | Read from the SEC, up to 15 minutes old |
| Insider trades | `GET /api/v1/insiders/trades` | Free | 3 | SEC Form 4 | Daily, public up to 2 business days after the trade |
| Insider clusters | `GET /api/v1/insiders/clusters` | Pro | 3 | SEC Form 4 | Daily, public up to 2 business days after the trade |
| Fund holdings | `GET /api/v1/funds/{cik}/holdings` | Pro | 3 | SEC Form 13F-HR | Quarterly, up to 45 days after quarter end |
| Fund changes | `GET /api/v1/funds/{cik}/changes` | Pro | 3 | SEC Form 13F-HR | Quarterly, up to 45 days after quarter end |
| Funds holding a stock | `GET /api/v1/tickers/{symbol}/holders` | Pro | 3 | SEC Form 13F-HR | Quarterly, up to 45 days after quarter end |
| Top traders | `GET /api/top-traders` | Pro | 3 | Hyperliquid public positions | Minutes |

The top-traders dataset covers Hyperliquid contracts linked to US stocks. They are derivatives, not shares.

The same datasets are available as MCP tools. The tool names are `alphayou_search_datasets`, `alphayou_funds`, `alphayou_company_disclosures`, `alphayou_insider_trades`, `alphayou_insider_clusters`, `alphayou_fund_holdings`, `alphayou_fund_changes`, `alphayou_ticker_holders` and `alphayou_top_traders`. A tool call costs the same as the matching REST call.

## How the limits work

There are 3 kinds of limit.

1. **Daily allowance.** Your units for the day. It resets at midnight UTC.
2. **Per minute.** 10 calls a minute on Free and 1,200 on Pro.
3. **At the same time.** 2 calls at once on Free and 10 on Pro.

There is also a shared ceiling on web traffic: 600 requests a minute for each IP address. Calls made through the hosted MCP server count twice against it.

Every response tells you where you stand.

| Header | What it tells you |
| - | - |
| `X-RateLimit-Cost` | Units this call used |
| `X-RateLimit-Limit` | Your daily allowance |
| `X-RateLimit-Remaining` | Units left today |
| `X-BurstLimit-Limit` and `X-BurstLimit-Remaining` | The per-minute ceiling and what is left of it |
| `Retry-After` | On a `429`, how many seconds to wait |

When you go over a limit you get a `429`. A call refused for going too fast does not use up your day. Wait for `Retry-After`, then try again. See [Errors](https://docs.alphayou.net/api/errors.md).

The standard plans are for your own research, your own tools and your own agents. Showing our data to your customers inside a product needs a separate licence. Write to [info@alphayou.net](mailto:info@alphayou.net) about an Enterprise licence.
